Ukrainian military units have regained full access to high-speed satellite internet connections for their drones. Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara announced on Saturday that monitoring systems now show stable links for equipment moving at speeds exceeding 250 miles per hour. This restoration ends a period of more than one week during which speed limits disrupted front-line operations.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that both Starlink and Starshield are functioning correctly. He noted that the service restoration began the previous night, with sufficient speeds available by morning. Zelenskyy emphasized that this capability is essential for front-line logistics and for defending against reactive Shahed drones launched by Russia.

The previous restrictions on the satellite service caused alarm among Ukrainian military and government officials. Commanders reported that drones were lost and missions were interrupted during the week of limited connectivity. Khmara attributed the resolution to direct dialogue between Kyiv and Washington, alongside Zelenskyy's diplomatic efforts.

The resolution occurred while U.S. envoys pursued a new diplomatic push to end the conflict. Russia agreed on Wednesday to resume three-way negotiations with the United States and Ukraine next month. Additionally, Kyiv and Moscow agreed on Friday to a localized ceasefire around Oleshky, a Russian-occupied town in the southern Kherson region. First Lady Melania Trump brokered that truce.

The satellite episode added tension to the relationship between Kyiv and Washington. That relationship was already strained by a reported deal between President Donald Trump and Moscow regarding Russian diesel imports, a move Ukraine viewed as a betrayal. Trump has maintained that he did not order the satellite interruptions, while stating that Elon Musk should not be blamed for the issue.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the United States and other partners who took the matter seriously. He said the restoration is vital for the military's work, including drone operations, logistics, and communications. Khmara highlighted that the stable connections are most important for the front lines and the continued effectiveness of Ukrainian military assets.

The satellite internet system was built by Elon Musk's company SpaceX. Ukraine has relied on this technology for years to counter Russian attacks. The recent disruption forced the military to adjust its operations, but the return to full speed allows for the rapid data transmission required for advanced drone control and real-time battlefield monitoring.
