Porsche earnings jump as China sales dip
Operating profit hit 1.74 billion euros in the first nine months of 2026, a sharp rise from last year, even as total revenue and vehicle deliveries fell.

Porsche reported a sharp increase in operating profit for the first nine months of 2026, attributing the gain to a reduced reliance on the Chinese market. The Volkswagen-owned company published its third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, showing a recovery in profitability despite lower sales and fewer cars delivered to customers.
Operating profit reached 1.74 billion euros, or $1.94 billion, for the period from January through September. This figure stands in contrast to the same period in 2025, when profit was only 40 million euros after the company recorded approximately 2.7 billion euros in strategic restructuring costs. The jump indicates that the high charges taken last year are no longer weighing on the bottom line.
However, the top line contracted. Sales revenue dropped 5.9% to 25.28 billion euros. Vehicle deliveries fell 16% to 178,532 units over the nine-month span. North America remained the largest region for Porsche by volume, helping to offset losses in other territories.
The company has struggled in China due to fierce competition from local manufacturers, including BYD, Geely, and Xiaomi, particularly in the electric vehicle segment. Jochen Breckner, Porsche’s chief financial officer, stated during the earnings webcast that the company’s geographically balanced sales footprint provides resilience. He noted that the significant reduction in Chinese exposure makes the business less dependent on that challenging market environment.
Porsche is also implementing a restructuring plan that includes cutting thousands of jobs to lower costs and address weaker demand. The stock finished trading 2.3% higher following the announcement. Citi analysts described the results as in line with expectations, noting that underlying earnings before interest and taxes remain resilient compared to other German premium brands.
The analysts expect a return to double-digit operating profit margins to begin in 2028. They project that net cash flow will recover to levels seen at the time of the company’s initial public offering by 2031. While 2027 is expected to be a trough year, the firm anticipates a solid multi-year recovery starting in financial year 2028.
