Royal Bahamas Police Force officers in Bimini opened an investigation into the death of a British woman on Tuesday. The force said the 36-year-old, who is believed to be from Stapleford in Nottinghamshire, died after a strong current carried her away while she tried to save her two sons. The family had been snorkelling near the southern point of the island with the woman's husband. When the current took the boys, she entered the water to reach them but was also swept away. Rescuers pulled the two boys from the sea.

Police stated that shortly after 10:00 am, officers at the Alice Town police station received a report that a woman was unresponsive at the North Bimini Ferry Dock. By the time police arrived, the woman had already been moved to a local clinic. A doctor there pronounced her dead despite efforts to revive her. Police noted that the woman was initially rescued from the water and transported to the ferry dock, where CPR was administered.

The force said foul play is not suspected at this time. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said their thoughts are with the family of the deceased. Officials are currently in contact with local authorities and providing support to the family.

The incident occurred on the island of Bimini in the Bahamas. The woman's husband and two sons survived the event. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is continuing its review of the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.
