Apple TV subscribers in the United States can now access Formula 1 coverage with Dolby Atmos audio. The upgrade went live on Friday, October 23, for the United States Grand Prix weekend. This marks the first time any Formula 1 race has been broadcast in the immersive audio format.
Apple and Dolby Laboratories confirmed the change earlier this month. The company stated that the surround sound design aims to place viewers at the center of race weekend events. This includes capturing team radio, commentary, engine noise, and pit lane activity. Apple noted that combining Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision enhances both the visual clarity and the sonic experience for fans watching the race.
First practice concluded before the audio update took effect. However, remaining sessions are available to subscribers. Practice 2 is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at 5:00 p.m. ET. On Saturday, October 24, Practice 3 begins at 1:30 p.m. ET, followed by qualifying at 5:00 p.m. ET. The main race occurs on Sunday, October 25, at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Apple is hosting a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The location recently hosted Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien for the launch of the iPhone Duo on Friday. The store serves as a focal point for the company’s local event strategy during the Grand Prix.
The company also updated Apple Maps to support fans attending the event. Apple expanded its Detailed City Experience to include Austin. The updated map features a detailed layout of the Circuit of The Americas. This includes turn numbers, grandstand locations, and 3D landmarks to assist with venue navigation.
Apple TV is priced at $14.99 per month. Subscribers can also access the service through the Apple One bundle. The platform streams original content including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo alongside the live sporting events.
