Three Nassau County villages have finalized their schedules for Veterans Day observances on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The communities will hold separate ceremonies at Mineola Memorial Park, the East Williston Village Green, and Williston Park Village Hall. Each event is designed to recognize the service of local military personnel and to bring residents together for remembrance.

The timing of the events varies by location to allow residents to attend different gatherings. Williston Park will hold its primary ceremony at 10:30 a.m. inside Village Hall. Mineola will host its annual ceremony at 11 a.m. in Mineola Memorial Park. East Williston will begin its main observance at 11:30 a.m. on the Village Green. All three locations are open to the public and local residents.

East Williston has planned additional activities later in the day to coincide with the holiday. At 6 p.m. on the Village Green, the village will conduct a flag retirement ceremony in partnership with local scouting troops. This event aims to properly retire American flags that are no longer suitable for display. The ceremony also serves to educate younger generations on the protocols for respecting the national flag.

Following the flag retirement, East Williston will host a special reception at Village Hall. This gathering will specifically honor members of the recently disbanded Williston Park VFW Post 1688. The village seeks to acknowledge the camaraderie and contributions of these veterans during the event. The recognition also highlights the organization’s longstanding role in local veterans’ observances before its dissolution.

Mineola has encouraged community members to participate in its 11 a.m. observance. The village stated that the ceremony is open to anyone who wishes to pay tribute to those who served. The event will focus on recognizing the specific contributions and sacrifices of veterans from the local community. No ticket is required for entry to the park for the ceremony.

Veterans Day is observed annually on Nov. 11 to honor those who have served in the U.S. military. The date marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. The villages are using this date to formally recognize the men and women who have served in the armed forces. Families and residents are invited to attend the local observances to take part in honoring these individuals.

The events are scheduled for the same day but at different locations across the villages. Residents in the area can choose to attend one or multiple ceremonies depending on their location and availability. The schedule spans from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in East Williston. Mineola’s ceremony is a standalone event in the park, while Williston Park’s is held indoors at Village Hall.
