Google is distributing a major interface update to the Gemini app for Android through a server-side push. This delivery method allows the changes to reach users immediately without requiring a new download from the Play Store. The rollout follows a recent shift that renamed the 'Spark' feature to 'Task.'

The redesign restructures the navigation drawer to reduce visual clutter. The search function has moved to the top-right corner of the screen. New chat remains the primary entry at the top of the list. The Library section has been elevated to sit directly beneath it, a position it previously occupied only near the bottom of the drawer.

To manage the length of the menu, the app now displays only five recent chat items by default. Users must tap a 'More' option to expand the full list. For subscribers to the AI Ultra tier, the complete menu includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.

Google has also unified the app's configuration options. Previously, user preferences were split between the account menu and a distinct 'Gemini Settings' area. The new update consolidates all controls onto a single page. The account menu now serves a narrower function, limited to switching accounts, submitting feedback, or accessing help resources.

The new Settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry on this list marked as new. Two additional sections cover Data & privacy and support options.

The Data & privacy section includes Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The Get support section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates. These specific layout changes first arrived on iOS, macOS, and the web platform last week alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon.

Android users are now experiencing this broader availability of the redesign. Recent developments in the Gemini ecosystem also include Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App for deeper integration. Free users have moved to 'Auto' models as the app adds thinking levels. A new 'Map' tool has also arrived, accompanied by the replacement of the '/' shortcut with '@'.
