Arsenal and Manchester City stand level with 21 points each after eight matches in the Premier League. The tie was formed on Saturday when Arsenal defeated Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium while Manchester City lost 2-1 at Aston Villa.

The result at Villa Park marked Manchester City's first defeat of the season. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Aston Villa, ending the visitors' unbeaten run. The win moved Unai Emery's team to sixth place with 11 points and secured a third consecutive league victory over City.

In north London, Arsenal capitalized on the rival's loss to erase a three-point gap. The match was played in heavy rain. Martin Odegaard's corner led to the first goal in the seventh minute. Jordan Pickford stopped the initial attempt, but Ezri Konsa poked the loose ball into the net from close range. This was Konsa's first goal for the club and Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May.

Arsenal secured the win in the 68th minute. Ben White, playing his 200th game for the team, crossed to the far post. Gabriel headed the ball home on his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton finished the match in ninth place.

At Villa Park, Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after stealing the ball from Marc Guehi. Erling Haaland equalized shortly after halftime with a header from Iliman Ndiaye's free kick. Jackson scored the winner at the 60-minute mark, finishing a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye and beating goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City currently faces an independent commission's finding of 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules. The club is appealing the decision and denies wrongdoing. Jackson told TNT Sports that the club is working game by game.

In other results, Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. It was only Chelsea's second league loss there in 36 years. Mathys Tel scored the final goal, and Cole Palmer was sent off in the 80th minute. Fulham also won 1-0 against Coventry City, with Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute to move Fulham to 13th place.
