Early Black Friday pricing has reached smart bird feeders, with three models from Birdfy and Kiwibit listed between $110 and $170. The sale reflects a category that has grown since 2020, when smart feeders first reached the market.
A Birdfy reviewer who has tested these products for several years recommends the original Birdfy feeder with a solar panel, listed at $127, which is 29 percent off. The discount applies only to the blue version; the yellow costs $13 more. A version without the solar panel costs $110. The reviewer says the solar panels have been reliable and spare owners from bringing the feeder indoors to charge, and recommends paying the additional $17 for one. The model carries a two-year warranty and connects only on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
The Kiwibit Feeder 2 with a solar roof is listed at $170, also 29 percent off. It is not the newest model from the company; that version, the Feeder 2 Pro, costs $220. The reviewer calls the standard Feeder 2 exceedingly well designed and says this is the lowest price they have seen for it. Its 1.5-liter seed hopper splits into two compartments for different types of feed and lifts out by a handle on top, so refilling does not require taking the whole feeder down.
The Feeder 2 takes 8-megapixel photos and 4K video. Its solar roof kept the device charged across weather conditions during testing. The app works without a Kiwibit Plus subscription, though the reviewer has noticed more features moving behind that paywall. The feeder runs on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and carries a one-year warranty.
A third option, the Kiwibit 4K Feeder with auxiliary solar, is listed at $140, or 26 percent off. It uses the same camera and hardware as the Feeder 2 but ships without a built-in solar roof. The kit includes a 3-watt panel the reviewer mounted on the back of a wall bracket.
Smart feeders on the market since 2020 now include high-resolution cameras, 4K video recording and AI bird identification. Placement matters for maintenance: the 5-7-9 rule for pole mounts helps keep squirrels away, and the reviewer reports that most units need little care beyond refilling seed. The Birdfy is described as the best choice for buyers who want a feeder that lasts through the seasons, an easy app and no major features locked behind a subscription. Deals currently cover the blue Birdfy with solar at $127, the Kiwibit 4K Feeder with auxiliary solar at $140 and the Kiwibit Feeder 2 with solar roof at $170.
The reviewer notes sturdier designs exist, including the Kiwibit, and that some feeders have better cameras, such as Camojojo's 32MP Hibird. Those options either cost more or come with unreliable apps and paywalled features.
