New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center Health Network named William H. Moore, M.D., as chair of radiology for both institutions, effective February 1, 2027. The appointment places one leader over the academic department and the hospital network's radiology operations.
Moore joins from NYU Langone Health, where he serves as professor of radiology and vice chair of informatics in the Department of Radiology. He previously served as section chief of thoracic imaging and has held academic and administrative leadership roles in academic radiology for more than two decades.
His NYU Langone section grew to about two dozen faculty members and handled more than 400 CT examinations and 1,000 chest X-rays daily. He also expanded lung biopsy services and established a lung ablation program there.
As vice chair of informatics, Moore led technology implementations and system integrations, working on the expansion and integration of imaging operations across a large, complex health system. His work in computational science covers computer-aided diagnostics, systems integration, and the application of artificial intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy, workflow, and operational efficiency.
"Every patient deserves timely answers and confidence in their care," said Peter Paige, M.D., M.M.M., CPE, FACEP, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at WMCHealth. "Dr. Moore's expertise in advanced imaging, minimally invasive treatment, and emerging technologies will help us diagnose disease more precisely and guide patients to the right care sooner."
Neil W. Schluger, M.D., dean of the NYMC School of Medicine, said Moore's experience using informatics and emerging technologies to improve patient care and operational performance, coupled with his dedication to educating and mentoring physicians, made him an outstanding choice. Schluger also thanked Zvi Lefkovitz for his years as chair and Hasit Mehta for serving as interim chair during the transition.
Moore specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases, particularly lung cancer, with clinical work including image-guided biopsies and minimally invasive therapies such as lung ablation. His research covers minimally invasive treatment of lung malignancies and chronic pain, including cryoablation and cryoneurolysis, along with low-dose CT, computer diagnostics, and systems integration. His teams have participated in NIH- and industry-supported research and studied pulsed electrical field ablation for lung cancer.
Before NYU Langone, Moore served as vice chair of education and radiology residency program director at Stony Brook Medicine, overseeing graduate medical education activities in radiology. He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College, completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Stony Brook Medicine, then trained in thoracic imaging at NYU and informatics at Stony Brook University. He is board-certified in diagnostic radiology and was named a Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 2025.
The national search for the chair was led by Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer of NYMC, and Paige as co-chairs. The committee included representatives from NYMC and WMCHealth.
