Elon Musk directed more than $76 million into his personal political committee, America PAC, during the first two weeks of October. The funds arrived as the group worked to support Republican candidates in the final phase of the midterm campaign. A pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening provided the specific figures.

The committee spent nearly $43 million during that same two-week period. It enters the final stretch of the campaign with almost $47 million in cash on hand. The Texas Senate race absorbed the largest share of the new spending. America PAC poured $15.2 million into that specific contest, which is twice the amount spent there over the entire summer.

Of the Texas allocation, $12.4 million funded attacks on Democratic candidate James Talarico. Another $2.8 million supported Republican Ken Paxton. Daily filings submitted after the initial report show an additional $9.1 million directed against Talarico. This brings the PAC's total spending against the Democrat this cycle to nearly $28 million. That sum represents roughly 40 percent of all money the group has spent supporting or opposing candidates.

The committee also shifted its strategy toward online advertising. It spent $11.4 million on digital ads in the two-week window. This amount is close to what the group spent on mail and texting combined. According to an analysis of FEC filings, Musk has given more than $445 million to Republican political groups this election cycle. He is now the largest known individual donor in the midterms. More than $165 million of that total went to America PAC since July. The PAC declined to comment on the numbers.

Musk has also engaged in the race through social media. On Wednesday, he wrote on X that there is something deeply wrong with Talarico. He called the candidate a creep and claimed without evidence that Talarico would vote to take away children and transition them. Earlier in the month, Musk amplified a false claim that Talarico had been treated at a mental health facility. Talarico responded that same day. He stated there is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator.

The contest remains close. An Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely Texas voters, conducted from October 17 to 19, placed Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent. The result falls within the poll's three-point margin of error. The outcome affects more than just the state seat. If Democrats win the House, committee chairs have signaled they will investigate Musk's role in the Department of Government Efficiency. They also plan to review federal contracts held by his companies. California Representative Zoe Lofgren described the number of conflicts of interest as astounding.

Silicon Valley Democrats have identified another area for scrutiny. Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna sent a letter to the White House demanding an investigation. The letter focused on restrictions for SpaceX's Starshield satellite service in Ukraine. The group said the next Congress will closely scrutinize federal funding awarded to Mr. Musk's businesses.
