The Carolina Hurricanes claimed a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in Raleigh on Tuesday night, securing their first home win in two weeks. Sebastian Aho delivered the decisive strike with 9:41 remaining in the third period. His goal gave the Hurricanes, who hold the best record in the league, a win over a Boston team that had collected points in its previous eight games.
Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 14 shots to extend his unbeaten run to eight starts. His 8-0-0 record matches the longest season-opening winning streak in franchise history, a mark previously set by Frederik Andersen five years ago. Kochetkov’s performance anchored a defense that also killed two Boston power plays in the final five minutes of regulation.
The scoring sequence began early. Pavel Zacha put the Bruins ahead 1-31 into the contest on a power play. Jackson Blake responded with 52 seconds left in the first period to tie the game. The Hurricanes failed to score on four of their own power plays during the matchup, but their special teams defense proved decisive late in the game.
Aho’s goal marked his eighth of the season, contributing to a team-high 19 points for the franchise. The Hurricanes became the first NHL team this season to reach 20 points, a first-time accomplishment for the club. The Bruins, who had won their previous two games, fell to a single-game skid. Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves for Boston.
Both teams will return to action on Thursday. The Bruins travel to St. Louis, while the Hurricanes host Columbus in Raleigh.
