Boca Juniors retakes Argentine annual table lead with 1-0 Superclasico win

The Argentine football season entered its penultimate stage on Sunday as Boca Juniors defeated River Plate 1-0 in the Superclasico at La Bombonera. The result allowed the home side to reclaim the top position in the annual accumulated standings.

Lautaro Di Lollo scored the only goal of the match with a header in the 27th minute, a strike that proved decisive for the team managed by Rodolfo Arruabarrena. The match was defined by early disciplinary issues that shifted the momentum in favor of the visitors' rivals. Referee Nicolas Ramirez sent off River Plate defender Lucas Martinez Quarta in the ninth minute for a foul against the attacking unit.

River Plate played with ten men for the majority of the contest. The numerical disadvantage worsened in the 79th minute when Gonzalo Montiel received a red card. At that point, the visiting side fielded only nine players, sparking visible frustration among the coaching staff and the remaining squad members on the bench.

The win moved Boca Juniors to 60 points in the annual table, placing them one point ahead of Rosario Central. This victory also guaranteed direct qualification for next year's Copa Libertadores. The team will attempt to clinch the title if they defeat Defensa y Justicia in the final matchday.

Boca Juniors faces a busy schedule ahead of the season's end. They are set to play Banfield in the Copa Argentina semifinals on November 14 and will take on Atletico Mineiro in the Copa Sudamericana final in Barranquilla on November 21. River Plate, currently with 23 points in Zone B, must beat Aldosivi in Mar del Plata in the final round to secure a spot in the Clausura final phase.
