Anthropic has officially launched Claude Duet, a new application designed to automate professional workflows and manage complex tasks for small businesses and professionals. The release positions the company to compete directly with a growing roster of rivals, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. By targeting the business segment, Anthropic aims to capture a specific slice of the market that is increasingly looking for tools that can act on their behalf rather than just converse with them.

The new agent distinguishes itself from personal assistants like Instinct by focusing on professional utility rather than domestic convenience. Anthropic notes that Duet is not designed to handle errands or book tickets, nor does it offer a real-time view of its browser activity. Instead, the platform builds daily briefings, creates dashboards, and suggests actions based on user data. It operates within its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete tasks in the background while the user continues with other work. The agent will pause and request approval only when necessary.

Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet connects to more than 6,000 integrations available in the Claude Marketplace. This broad connectivity allows the agent to interact with various professional tools. It can also execute online purchases on behalf of users through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. While the agent can process these transactions, Anthropic emphasizes that sensitive steps require explicit user approval. The system is not designed to trade securities or transfer funds between accounts, limiting its financial scope to purchasing.

Security remains a key consideration for the new tool. Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scans each message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is programmed to decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification. This approach addresses common privacy concerns associated with autonomous agents that have access to user data and financial tools.

The launch of Duet coincides with a broader industry shift from simple AI assistants to more capable agents. Many of Anthropic’s competitors are now prioritizing business use cases. Meta, for example, released a version of Muse specifically for small businesses with app connections, alongside its personal assistant. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots integrates with professional tools to serve a business-oriented audience. This trend suggests that the market is maturing beyond casual chat interfaces.

Currently, Claude Duet is available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. Users can access the app on iOS and Android, as well as on the web through Claude.ai. Access is limited, and interested parties must join a waitlist to test the platform. This phased rollout allows Anthropic to gather feedback and refine the agent's capabilities before a wider release.

The move signals that Anthropic is betting on the utility of autonomous agents in professional settings. By focusing on background task execution and data-driven recommendations, the company is trying to solve specific pain points for small business owners. The emphasis on security and controlled financial actions suggests a strategy to build trust with users who are hesitant to grant AI agents significant operational autonomy.

Going forward, the performance of Claude Duet will depend on its ability to deliver reliable results in a crowded field. With numerous competitors offering similar business-focused features, Anthropic must demonstrate that its approach to agent-based workflow management offers a distinct advantage. The next few months will be critical as the company refines the tool based on early user feedback and expands its availability beyond the initial research preview.
