A Westchester County jury convicted Kevin Lopez of attempted murder on Thursday. The 41-year-old New Rochelle resident was found guilty of five counts related to an attack on a pedestrian.

The verdict includes attempted murder in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, and attempted assault in the first degree. The jury also returned guilty verdicts for assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Authorities classify Lopez as a violent predicate offender. He is currently held at the Westchester County Jail.

Lopez now faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years. The prosecution concluded its case after presenting evidence from the July 30, 2025 incident.

The attack occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on the Centre Avenue Bridge over I-95 in New Rochelle. Lopez approached the victim from behind and displayed a utility knife. He demanded money and took $100 from the pedestrian.

Lopez then pushed the victim to the ground. He stabbed the man multiple times in the face, neck, abdomen, and left arm. Lopez fled the scene, leaving his driver's license behind. Police recovered the document at the location of the crime.

The victim was transported to New Rochelle Montefiore Hospital. Medical staff treated him for lacerations and a jugular hematoma. The New Rochelle Police Department arrested Lopez at his home on Aug. 8, 2025. Officers recovered the utility knife used in the assault during the arrest.

The New Rochelle Police Department stated that it commends the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. The department cited the office's thorough prosecution and commitment to securing justice for the victim.
