Amazon released four new Echo devices on October 28, leaving only the large-screen Echo Show 16 for a later launch. The company shifted away from unveiling dozens of gadgets at a single annual event. Instead, it now gives each product its own launch window.
The available hardware includes an updated Echo Dot, an Echo Studio with a home camera, a bedside alarm clock, and a smart photo frame. Each device integrates the Alexa Plus assistant. Amazon stated that the Echo Dot now produces 50 percent more bass than its predecessor. It also features faster on-device processing and an additional microphone to capture voices across a room.
A new function called Omnisense combines temperature and presence sensing. This allows the speaker to control smart home devices without requiring user input. The Echo Studio adds a camera to its existing speaker hardware. Amazon plans to enable pairing with Fire TV devices after launch. That feature will allow video calls to display on larger television screens.
The Echo Time serves as a bedside alarm clock. Unlike previous models, it has no camera. The device uses ultrasound to detect a person's sleep stage. It can run smart alarms that wake users gradually, but only if the owner activates that setting. The Alexa Photo Frame features a 10-inch anti-glare touchscreen. It functions as a smart speaker and works with Amazon Photos, which offers unlimited storage for Prime members.
The Echo Show 16 is scheduled to launch on December 16. Amazon describes it as its most powerful and best-sounding smart display to date. The device includes eight woofers and two tweeters located in the stand and screen. The display is VESA-compatible, and buyers can select a pricier nanomatte screen option.
Shoppers can preorder the Echo Show 16 now and receive a $100 discount on the price. The other four devices are already on sale as of October 28.
